Pan Am Parapan Am Aquatics Centre

Entro designed the environmental graphics program for Toronto’s Pan Am / Parapan Am Sports Centre, a major multi-sport facility created for the 2015 Games. The work connected architecture, identity, and navigation through a graphic language inspired by the Canadian Shield, helping the venue welcome athletes, spectators, and community users while creating a memorable symbol for the Games.

The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre represented the largest investment in Canadian amateur sport history.

Located in Toronto, the facility was designed to support both elite competition and everyday community use. Its program includes two Olympic-sized, 10-lane swimming pools; a 25-metre diving tank with platforms and springboards; four gymnasiums; a 200-metre indoor track; a two-storey fitness centre; a 41-foot climbing wall; teaching studios; and family and universal change rooms.

During the 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games, the complex hosted swimming, diving, roller speed skating, pentathlon, and fencing.

A facility of this scale needed to serve many audiences moving through an ambitious and technically complex environment.

Wayfinding and environmental graphics had to support competition operations, guide spectators efficiently, and remain welcoming for daily users after the Games. The design also needed to respond to the building’s dramatic architecture without competing with it, while expressing the energy of sport and establishing a distinctive sense of place.

The completed program helped the Sports Centre operate as both a world-class competition venue and an accessible community facility.

Clear, expressive graphics supported movement through the complex while reinforcing the building’s connection to the Canadian landscape and the spirit of the Games. Entro’s contribution gave the venue a unified visual identity that could endure beyond the 2015 event, helping position the facility as an important long-term asset for Toronto’s athletic, recreational, and community life.
