The Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP) has been helping build the foundation for a financially secure retirement for Ontario’s healthcare workers since 1960 through their defined benefit pension plan. In 2013, and as a major investment to support and drive the future of the fund, HOOPP, together with Menkes Developments Ltd and Sun Life Financial, broke ground on an innovative Class AAA office tower that now provides an enclosed pedestrian link to the Air Canada Centre with access to Union Station and the PATH network. The 35-floor 800,000 sq.ft. LEED certified HOOPP-owned office tower at 1 York Street is now home to prime tenants such as Sun Life Financial, CIBC Mellon, Bentall Kennedy and retail tenants Winners, Coppa’s Fresh Markets, and Harbour Eats by Mercantino among others.

HOOPP also moved their office taking 6 floors in the new building. Entro designed the interior wayfinding program to complement interiors designed by Figure 3, as well as the new brand identity and environmental graphics designed by Hambly & Woolley.

We developed an understated yet elegant signage system that mostly employs neutral tones with green accents to echo the new brand’s colour palette and typography. Directories are mounted on tall angular panels, with recessed circles that signal the brand identity and double as indicators for the North and South ends of the tower. Floor numbers and tower identifiers are also applied to the glass doors in the elevator lobbies to coordinate and compliment with other elements and provide minimal yet efficient cues to establish sense of place.

The new brand and office space place HOOPP among the leaders in workplace innovation, environmental sustainability and architectural achievement. According to HOOPP's President & CEO, Jim Keohane, this real estate investment brings “growth, and steady, regular income, which is ideal for providing pension income to our members."
