OCADU required a new identity to signal the change in the school’s status and name. Likewise, the old wayfinding and building identification program needed an upgrade to match the new identity. Entro was selected through a competition to develop the concept design for the exterior and interior signage program.
The new wayfinding system is visually based on OCADU’s iconic Sharp Centre for Design, designed by Will Alsop, with its black squares dotted all over the building envelope. As the preeminent symbol for the centre, it was essential to adapt this design treatment to the wayfinding system. A second design cue came from the new logo which is comprised of 3 black frames; black and white then became the theme for the signs and a half frame the signifier. The university will roll out the new signage system over the next few months.
