TELUS SPARK

Calgary, Alberta

Project

TELUS Spark is a purpose built science centre with the mission of creating a positive science and technology culture that inspires and motivates people to learn about, and contribute to, advances in science and technology that benefit the community.

Entro worked with StudioLab and Dialog to express this mission throughout the 153,000 sq.ft. area of open studios, education labs, theatres, demonstration spaces and amenities organized around a dramatic central atrium space.

Tall pylon structures were designed as intuitive wayfinding structures to the main entrance. This theme was carried through the interior with brightly coloured informational features on exhibit columns.

Spark's playful, avant-garde structure, characterized by strong angles, dramatic lighting, and colourful elements, inspired a bold visual language for wayfinding.

Bold pink 3-dimensional arrows pointing through walls add a touch of whimsy.

The donor recognition piece integrates directly into the massive concrete stairwell.

The main donor recognition installation forms a composition of metal type, and is itself made up of individual letters that form donor names.
