The Ivey School of Business – In a League of its Own

Story

The Ivey School of Business at Western University is Canada’s premiere business education leader and one of the oldest business schools in Canada. The new Richard Ivey Building is a state-of-the-art three-story building surrounding a landscaped quadrangle. The design by Hariri Pontarini Architect’s (HPA) is a combination of archetypal Gothic college architecture and modern international design with a strong emphasis on creating a warm and welcoming ambiance.

The wayfinding and donor recognition programs designed by Entro for this extraordinary school reference the historical and contemporary aspects of the new building. Bronze base materials for the wayfinding elements were chosen to correlate with the architectural finishes. The main donor wall features dimensional letters individually pinned to the staircase wall. The secondary donor wall is a 10-meter long installation where names are ‘wedged’ into the surface, creating an effect of light and shadow play. Custom-made window films provide privacy for faculty and staff and also reflect on the historical aspects of the Ivey School.

The final stage of construction was completed in September 2013, ready for the new student enrolment.
